If you are looking for a lactation consultant, I highly recommend Jess with Sunshine Lactation. She is kind and caring, as well as incredibly knowledgeable and professional. Even as a second time mom, I needed support to help establish a comfortable breastfeeding relationship. Jess provided help abundantly, through in-person vists where she could evaluate baby's latch and sucking ability and get an exact measurement on how much milk they were drinking. As well as text and email support for all my questions along the way, and recommendations she gave me for other care providers (chiropractor and pediatric dentist). I am very grateful for all her help.

Jess was awesome and so helpful to me as a first time mom. My baby had jaundice, so I had to supplement with formula pretty soon after birth, and other issues meant that I was also using a supplemental nursing system and struggling with latch. I saw Jess about a week after birth, and she helped us so much. She has a wealth of knowledge while being really open minded, and helped me find the right path forward that worked best for me and my baby. I highly recommend Sunshine Lactation!

I was looking for a lactation consultant after realizing that our son was not gaining weight and our pediatrician suggested that it may be an issue with his latch. I really wanted to primarily breastfeed and it was very important to me. I was fortunate enough to find Jess and the minute she walked into my home I felt completely at ease. We started by doing a weighted feeding to find out how much milk he was transferring and quickly realized that he was not eating much. Jess then proceeded to show me some alternative positions for breastfeeding intended to make it a little bit easier for both me and my son and then she evaluated his mouth including his ability to suck and that is where we discovered his problem.
Based on what was found she made recommendations to follow up with a pediatric dentist for an official diagnosis of his suspected tongue tie. She knew which dentist to recommend based on their expertise and training within this field and shared why she would recommend these specific dentists. I scheduled an appointment with one of the dentists she recommended and just like Jess suspected our son had both a tongue and lip tie.
During our initial appointment, Jess also took the time to go thru my pump and equipment and made recommendations for correcting the size of the flanges to make sure we optimized the use of the pump. She also provided me with a plan to preserve my milk supply (which included a lot of pumping and supplementing with a bottle) to ensure that once we saw the dentist and hopefully corrected our sons ability to latch we still had sufficient milk supply.
Once we had the tongue and lip tie corrected Jess came out for a follow up appointment and we redid the weighted feeding and our sons ability to transfer milk was dramatically different.
Today, he is gaining weight and I am able to breastfeed him successfully something that was very important to me and has been an amazing experience. Jess truly is a life saver. She is passionate about what she does, extremely knowledgeable and she never made me feel like I was doing anything wrong but rather gave me a boost of confidence. Even when I was ready to quit and wanted to move to formula (which I don’t think there is anything wrong with) Jess supported me and shared best practices around formula. She was also there to answer any questions I had and she always provided a lot of information that just made sense. I would recommend Jess to anyone with a newborn. She is without a doubt the reason I am successfully breastfeeding today and I am forever grateful to her for that!
